Real roku deals are hard to find on Roku’s own store, because the list prices barely move. Five players run from $39.99 to $149.99, and Roku’s discount page points at televisions instead.
So the useful question is not when to buy. It is which tier your TV can actually use.
Roku’s own deals page skips the players
Read on 2 September 2026, Roku’s Big Deals page listed five Roku-made televisions at $50 to $80 off, and not one streaming player.
That is the pattern to plan around. Players hold list price on roku.com, and the markdowns land on the TVs.

The cheap stick is only cheap if your TV is 1080p
The entry player tops out at HD. It runs fine on a 4K set and leaves most of the panel idle, so that saving comes straight out of picture quality.
Check Roku’s fine print before you pay up, though. It states that 4K on a Roku player needs a 4K TV with an HDMI HDCP 2.2 port and a High Speed HDMI cable, plus content that exists in 4K.
An older 4K TV without HDCP 2.2 on the port you use gets nothing from the pricier stick. If you are replacing the set anyway, the Walmart Roku TV lineup is the easiest shelf to compare.
What the middle upgrade actually buys
The step from the Plus to the Streaming Stick 4K is not about resolution. Both reach 4K with HDR. The dearer one adds Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and long-range Wi-Fi.
Roku’s own buying guide leads on that Wi-Fi, for TVs sitting further from the router. If your stick buffers behind the panel, read that line twice.
Dolby Vision only pays off when the TV decodes it and the app serves it. On a set that does neither, twenty dollars bought an aerial.
Two different products share the top price
At $149.99 Roku sells both the Ultra and the Streambar SE, and they answer unrelated complaints.
The Ultra is the speed and connection box: Wi-Fi 6, an Ethernet port, USB playback and Dolby Atmos. Roku calls it its fastest player, and it carries the backlit Voice Remote Pro that recharges and can be paged when it vanishes.
Roku’s guide names Ethernet only under the Ultra. That port is the one real fix for a player that drops out mid-episode, and no stick in the range offers it at any price.
The Streambar SE puts 4K streaming and speakers in one unit, expandable to 2.1. Its remote has TV controls and no voice search, a genuine step down from every stick in the range including the $39.99 one.
If sound is the real problem, weigh it against a Roku soundbar plus a cheaper stick, because the split setup keeps the voice remote. The remote each model ships with is the spec people forget to check.
