Dragon Quest Walk Is Very Popular in Japan, but Will It Get an International Release?

We come with great news with regards to the new AR game that made its appearance on the market in Japan earlier. Dragon Quest Walk has already reached more than 5 million downloads after the first week of release.

This game is similar to Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Pokemon Go. Players have to walk to locations in real life, and they have to use their phones in order to enjoy the game.

All players need to create a character and use them in fighting monsters and complete quests and challenges. It’s quite similar to the mainline – the Dragon Quest series.

This series has always been quite popular in Japan, and we all know it. As per reports, Dragon Quest Walk has been downloaded more than 5 million times in the first week of release. But, given this reaction in Japan, will it actually lead to the international version of the game?

The AR mobile game market is packet, and Pokemon Go is still the leader, and it has been since its release. This game series is actually a niche series outside Japan, and Square Enix is trying to change this thing with Nintendo Switch. They are preparing a series of new releases for the console. We are talking about the entire series of Dragon Quest – Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, Dragon Quest III: Seeds of Salvation, and Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age. They are all going to be released this month. They have also gotten a promotional bump, once the Hero was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The first months of Dragon Quest Walk and its performance will be crucial for the international release. The initial install base is quite smaller than that which the Nintendo mobile games have – those which were released during the same time. This means that Square Enix will make the most out of its time and see if the game will have the same fanbase before they do the international release.
