The Last of Us 2 Release Date Postponed Until May 2020

The Last of Us 2 is one of the most sought-after games at the moment. But, unfortunately, we have bad news for the title’s fans. As announced by the game’s director, The Last of Us 2 should have launched in February 2020, but the devs postponed the release date until May 2020.

Just about one month ago, Sony offered the gaming press representatives to try the game. The company also released a new story trailer and announced that the title would come out on February 21st, 2020. Recently, the developers realized they could not polish the game to a level good enough for a February release.

“At this point, we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team,” said Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us 2 director, on Playstation Blog.

The Last of Us 2 Release Date Postponed Until May 2020

The Last of Us 2 team decided that no compromise should be made, so they chose to postpone the game’s release date to late-spring, in May 2020. That’s a situation that Neil Druckmann wanted to avoid, but as it looks now, they could not do that.

“We wish we could’ve foreseen the amount of polish we needed, but the size and scope of this game got the better of us. We hate disappointing our fans and for that we’re sorry. We hope you understand that this additional time ensures that The Last of Us Part II lives up to our collective ambition as well as our commitment to the highest level of quality,” Druckmann added.

The Last of Us 2 will be an action-adventure game. Naughty Dog develops the title, while Sony Interactive Entertainment will publish it. The game would launch on PlayStation 4, exclusively, on May 29th, 2020.
