To share your location on iPhone, open the Find My app, tap People, then tap Share My Location and pick a contact. You can send it for one hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely, so you are never stuck broadcasting your every move.
The key is choosing the right duration. Here is how to share exactly what you want and nothing more.
Share your live location from Find My
Open Find My and tap the People tab at the bottom. Tap Share My Location, type a name or number, then tap Send.
Your iPhone immediately asks how long to share for: one hour, until the end of the day, or share indefinitely. Pick the shortest option that fits, since you can always extend it later.
Send a location without live tracking
Sometimes you just want to show where you are right now, not stream it. Open Messages, tap the contact’s name at the top, then tap Send My Current Location.
This drops a one-time pin. It does not update as you move, which is perfect for meeting up without giving anyone a live feed of your route.
Choose between live and static sharing
Live sharing updates continuously and is best for family or a friend tracking your drive home. A static pin is a snapshot, ideal for a quick meetup.
Think about who is on the other end before you pick. If you would not want them watching all day, send the one-time pin instead. If you have ever worried about who can see you, our guide on using iPhone features confidently covers the same careful mindset.
Stop sharing your location in one tap
Go back to Find My, tap People, tap the person’s name, then scroll down and tap Stop Sharing My Location. They can no longer see you, and iPhone does not send them a notification.
Check this list now and then. It is easy to forget someone you shared with months ago. For more tips like this, browse our iPhone guides or visit the Bleebot homepage.
Frequently asked questions
Does the other person know when I stop sharing my location?
No. When you stop sharing in Find My, the other person is not notified. Your name simply disappears from their list.
Can I share my location for just one hour?
Yes. When you start sharing in Find My, iPhone offers Share for One Hour, Until End of Day, or Share Indefinitely. Pick the one hour option for a short meetup.
What is the difference between sharing location and sending current location?
Sharing location gives a live feed that updates as you move. Sending your current location drops a single pin that does not update, which is better for one-time meetups.
