How to cancel Xfinity service without extra fees

xfinity cancel service - How to cancel Xfinity service without extra fees

To cancel Xfinity service, call Xfinity at 1-800-934-6489, schedule a callback from xfinity.com/cancel, or walk into an Xfinity Store. Those are the three routes Xfinity lists itself. The extra fees come from two places: an early termination fee if you are still inside a term agreement, and a charge for any rental equipment you never send back.

Check your agreement before you call

Many current Xfinity internet plans are sold with no annual contract and “cancel anytime” wording. Older promo plans often came with a 1-year or 2-year minimum term, and that is where the fee lives.

To see which one you have, log in at customer.xfinity.com, click the Account icon, choose Account and Identity, then scroll to Legal Agreements and Contracts. Your agreement and its end date are listed there.

How the early termination fee is calculated

An official Xfinity employee on the Xfinity forums explained in May 2025 that the fee is prorated at $10 for each month left on the contract. Xfinity does not charge it within the first 30 days of choosing a plan.

The table applies that $10 rule to common situations.

Close to the end date? Waiting may cost less than the fee. If you are moving inside Xfinity’s area, transfer the service at xfinity.com/moving instead of cancelling.

Cancel only through Xfinity’s own channels

Use the phone number printed on xfinity.com/cancel, the scheduled callback on that page, or a store. Skip third-party “cancellation lines” you find in search ads. They cannot close your account.

Some online videos promise an app-only cancel with no call. Xfinity’s own cancel page does not list that option, so don’t count on it. Expect a retention offer. Decline it if you want, and ask for the disconnect date and a confirmation number.

Keeping Xfinity Mobile? Expect a $25 monthly fee once Internet, TV and Voice are gone: per account on the latest plan, per line on older ones.

Return the equipment the right way

  1. Go to the Digital Return Center at xfinity.com/returns. It still works after your account is disconnected.
  2. Pick the device, a reason, and either a store drop-off or UPS prepaid shipping.
  3. Pack only the device, remote and power cord. HDMI, Ethernet and coax cables stay with you.
  4. Keep the top of the label with the tracking number as your receipt, and allow up to two weeks for the return to show.

A store return comes off your account right away, with a printed receipt.

Set up the new connection without losing a day

Give your new router the same network name and password your Xfinity gateway used, and most devices reconnect on their own. Here is how to change your WiFi name and password.

If the new network shows WiFi connected but no internet, work through those fixes before blaming the new provider. If your VPN starts dropping, see why your VPN keeps disconnecting.

Xfinity cancellation FAQ

Can I cancel Xfinity online?

Xfinity’s cancel page lists a phone call, a scheduled callback or a store visit. You start the callback online, but a person completes the cancellation.

What is on the final Xfinity bill?

Prorated service, plus charges for any rental equipment you never returned. If you overpaid, Xfinity may owe you a refund.

Do I lose my comcast.net email when I cancel?

Not if you logged in during the 90 days before your disconnection date. After that, sign in at least once every nine months to keep it active.
