After Apple announced that it will deliver the iPhone 12 and the rest of the range that is still on sale without plug adapters and without headphones, it was expected that many jokes and memes will appear based on this decision. The jokes appeared immediately: “Apple will soon ship an iPhone without a screen”, or “Apple will sell an iPhone without a battery”. Well, soon, we may see iPhone models that come even without that power and data cable.
iPhone 13 could be delivered without the latest accessory in the package
An online questionnaire from Apple asks users if they use the accessories in the box. Given that the new iPhone 12 comes with a single accessory, a cable from USB-C to Lightning, it is quite clear what the company wants to know. He wants to know if that cable he delivers with each phone is really used, or if most respondents use a cable they already have around the house from an older phone.
In fact, this was one of the arguments that Apple used when it gave up the plug adapters and EarPods in the package. Most users already have older accessories and if they don’t, they can buy them now and use them many years from now for the next phones. Apparently, the USB cable is the next one that could disappear from the phone case. It remains to be seen, however, how quickly they will copy this trend after Apple and other companies in the industry. Rumors are already circulating that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S21 without a charger and headphones in the box.
In fact, the iPhone 13 could be the first mass-produced smartphone that could come without a Lightning port. No, Apple will not give up its proprietary standard to replace it with USB-C. The company already has a solution for charging iPhone 12 models: MagSafe, the magnetic charger, which uses Qi technology for fast power at 15W.
Thus, it will be easy for Apple to take the cable out of the box and replace it with a MagSafe charger, on models that will no longer have a physical port. Rumor has it that the iPhone 13 Pro Max will be the first model to give up the Lightning port, while the rest of the variants will keep it for another year.
