If you tried to activate the NBC Sports app on your Roku by typing nbcsports.com/activate into a browser, stop. That address returns a 404 error. Every NBCUniversal device activation runs through nbc.com/activate, and the code on your TV screen only works there.
The wrong URL is the most common reason people decide their code is broken. Usually it is fine. It is just being typed into a page that no longer exists.
Where the activation code actually goes
Open the NBC Sports app on your Roku and select any locked video, or head into the app’s settings page. An alphanumeric code appears on the TV.
Move to a phone or laptop, load nbc.com/activate, and type that code exactly as shown.
NBC’s help centre lists this as the flow for connected devices and smart TVs. The same page covers the wider NBCU family: Bravo, CNBC, E!, MSNBC, Oxygen, SYFY, Telemundo, Universo and USA.
Once the code is accepted, the browser drops you onto a TV provider menu. Choose your cable, satellite or digital provider, sign in, and the Roku screen refreshes by itself.
Why the code keeps getting rejected
Codes expire. If the TV has been parked on that screen while you hunted for the right website, back out of the app and reopen it to pull a fresh one.
Typos come second. Zero and the letter O are easy to mix up on a TV screen, so check the surrounding characters before you commit.
The browser is the third culprit. NBC suggests disabling pop-up blockers, clearing cache and cookies, and retrying in a private window. If you used a TV device’s built-in browser, switch to a desktop computer.
The handshake happens inside NBC’s account system, not inside the Roku operating system that runs your channels, so a factory reset does nothing for a rejected code.
When the TV provider sign-in is the real wall
Plenty of codes go through and the app still shows padlocks. That is a provider link failure, not an activation failure.
NBC points out that many TV providers force you to re-enter your credentials so they can confirm the account is current. An expired password or a recently changed plan stalls you right here.
Unlink the provider at the device level, relink it, then load the menu again. If your provider never appears in the list, it may not support NBC’s live authentication, a separate problem from a bad code.

A code that never shows up usually points at the connection, not the account. If the app crawls when it loads, your router admin settings deserve a look before you blame NBC.
What you can watch with no provider at all
NBC Sports NOW is a free 24/7 channel carrying sports talk shows, highlights and some live events. It runs on The Roku Channel, Peacock, Pluto TV and Xumo with no sign-in required.
One limit matters. NBC Sports NOW is not a live stream of the NBC linear network, as NBC Sports states on its own schedule page. For the live NBC feed you still need a TV provider login, which loops you back to nbc.com/activate.
Does nbcsports.com/activate work?
No. That URL returns a 404 page. Use nbc.com/activate instead for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV and Xbox.
How long does a Roku activation code stay valid?
NBC does not publish a fixed window, and codes do time out. If yours gets rejected, close the app and reopen it for a new code rather than retyping the old one.
Can I watch NBC Sports on Roku without cable?
Partly. NBC Sports NOW streams free on The Roku Channel, and Peacock carries a large share of NBC’s live sports. The linear NBC feed still requires a participating TV provider.
