Realme has announced the GT 5G model, the cheapest smartphone with Snapdragon 888

Budget brand Realme has officially announced its flagship for the year 2021. It is called Realme GT 5G and is equipped with top hardware, in a case inspired by racing cars. If we only look at the list of specifications, we could assume that it is a smartphone over 1,000 euros, but in reality, it costs even less than half the list price of a flagship from Samsung or Apple.

Realme GT 5G is equipped with the most powerful processor on the market

Realme GT 5G is built around a 6.43 ”AMOLED screen, compact for a 2021 flagship, with 120 Hz refresh rate, Full HD + resolution and 360 Hz touch sensitivity. It benefits from a Snapdragon 888 chipset, the most powerful model available on the market and uses 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage on UFS 3.1 format.

All these are top features, matched only by expensive high-end phones. However, Realme comes with a starting price of only 2,799 yuan in China (360 euros) for this model. Of course, this means that some compromises have been made in certain categories. First of all, the camera is a mid-range rather than a high-end one. We are talking about a triple camera, with a 64 megapixel main sensor (SONY IMX682), an 8 megapixel sensor for the ultra-wide lens and a 2 megapixel sensor for the macro lens.

The 4,500 mAh battery is also smaller than other top phones, but charging at 65W will ensure a fast charge in just over half an hour, says Realme (35 minutes). Of course, there is no problem with wireless charging at this price.

When launched in Europe, the price will certainly increase

And yet, the Realme GT 5G also comes with some advantages we would not have expected. The phone comes with stereo speakers compatible with Dolby Atmos, fingerprint sensor integrated in the display, a 3.5mm jack and Android 11 with Realme UI 2.0 pre-installed at the factory.
