Passwords are the way we protect our personal information online, as well as access to various more or less important accounts. It may not be a big deal if someone breaks your account on a forum or news site where you only comment, but access to a bank account, email, or social media account can reveal a lot of private information about you. and it can even do you material damage. NordPass, the password management application, made a list of the weakest passwords that its users used in 2020.
We have a list of the 20 worst passwords of the year, most of them being very easy to break. We are talking about passwords made exclusively from consecutive digits, passwords from a single digit repeated several times, the password “password” and many other such combinations easy to guess even without “hacker” skills. If you use any of these passwords, you are encouraged to change them immediately with more complex and personal ones.

According to NordPass, the most common password, “123456”, was broken 23 million times in 2020. Also, the use of successive key combinations, such as “qwertyuiop” or “asdfghjkl” are passwords that can be broken in only a few seconds of specialized software.
On the NordPass website there is a top 200 that includes many more passwords and combinations of them, along with information about the number of “burglaries” suffered by each. The ranking also keeps track of last year’s poll, showing whether a password has become more popular or less popular from 2019 to 2020.
