Apple could launch a new iPhone SE in 2021, as well as a new version of AirPods Pro

MacOtakara, the Japanese blog that closely follows Apple and usually has real information about the company’s unreleased products, suggests that Apple could launch a new iPhone this spring, as well as a new pair of AirPods. As we have become accustomed to, however, the new phone would be a replacement for last year’s iPhone SE and not a completely new or superior model to those in the iPhone 12 range, launched last fall.

An iPhone SE with an updated design could affect sales of other Apple models

However, this information contradicts other rumors from the past. Ming-Chi Kuo, a TF Securities analyst in Tawian, said a new iPhone SE could be more than a year away. It would be based on the design of the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 models, with LCD screen, but with the Face ID facial identification system and updated hardware.

If this device is launched in the spring of 2021, and Apple uses the same strategy as in the case of iPhone SE 2020, a new iPhone SE 2021 would benefit from the new hardware platform Apple A14, the 5nm chipset that is found in all iPhone 12 devices and in the iPad Air 4 tablet. An affordable iPhone SE, equipped with Face ID and powerful components, could eclipse the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 Mini models on offer. For this reason, Apple may have to wait another year to launch such a device.

Regarding the AirPods headphones, MacOtakara says that it is a new generation AirPods Pro. Unlike the original AirPods, which received a simple “refresh”, it is possible that it is more of a major hardware overhaul on the new headphones. In addition to better components, improved sound or even greater autonomy, we might see a new, completely different design.

Rumor has it that the new headphone box would remain just as tall, but it would be narrower, suggesting a miniaturization of the headphones. Apple may finally give up the “tails” of the headphones, for a simpler design.
