Snapdragon 888 Plus will be launched in the second half of 2021. Honor will be one of Qualcomm’s partners

Snapdragon 888 is the most powerful chipset for Android mobile platforms on the market, but it could benefit from a hardware overhaul, as it happened with the models from previous years. Snapdragon 888 Plus could debut sometime in the third quarter of 2021, and Honor, a brand that has never used high-end chipsets from Qualcomm, could be one of the first partners to adopt this processor.

Snapdragon 888 Plus will be a better overhaul of today’s top chipset

According to Digital Chat Station, a well-known leaker in China, Qualcomm is preparing production for a better hardware overhaul of the Snapdragon 888. It is not known exactly whether it will follow the past naming convention, which adds “plus”, or whether it will move to a more traditional name for the phone industry and add “pro” at the end.

According to the unofficial information we have now, however, the new processor will be more powerful, but if the tradition is repeated, the extra performance will not be very high. We will probably see a performance contribution of 10-15%, with high frequencies and high energy consumption. Also, the heat released by the processor may be higher. For this reason, the 2020 models with Snapdragon 865 Plus were only those that used more advanced cooling systems, many flagship phones still using standard Snapdragon 865 even towards the end of the year.

Honor is preparing for the launch of Honor 50 models, the Pro + model being already detected with Snapdragon 888 on board in TENAA laboratories. If a model equipped with Snapdragon 888 Plus appears, it will most likely be from another series. A few years ago, the most “prestigious” series of devices from Honor was Magic, which offered certain new technologies for the first time. It is possible that a new Honor Magic will be the one that will adopt the new top processor.
